Better Together Devotion for Oct 28

Have you ever thought of inviting someone to church as a way of introducing them to the Christian faith?

For some people this is a really difficult thing to do. They may come every week, but when it comes to saying, "Hey, I'm going to church on Sunday, do you want to come with me?" OMG, that might be the most frightening thing in the world to do. We are afraid they'll be offended, or we'll be embarrassed or maybe that Sunday won't work out.

It can be hard, but that's usually because we have to go slow. Yup, slow it down. Start with thinking about a person you know, who doesn't go to church, and simply start to pray for them. Not in some hokey, "I hope they come to church" prayer. No, I'm thinking that this radical love idea of jesus is the place to begin. Just start praying that this person experience a radical love, a grace of God, a moment of acceptance or forgiveness. Don't worry about them going to church, it's more important that this person feel whole, which by the way, did you know, that the word for salvation in the original Greek language is very similar to the word Whole. I don't know about you, but that helps me ALOT. When we think about and pray for someone to be saved, what we are really praying for is that they may be made whole.

WOW!

That helps me so much, cause the whole Baptist notion of Being Saved has kind of bothered me, but now that I know it's ultimately about being whole - well, who wouldn't wana be made whole.

Action Plan: Pick a person you know that you suspect needs some Love, and pray that God make them Whole. Do that about 5 times during the day today.
